L'Energètica to install solar panels in 341 Catalan schools

The public renewable energy company L'Energètica has launched a campaign to install solar panels on the roofs of public educational centers in Catalonia. The initiative aims to have solar installations in all eligible institutes by 2028, contributing to the broader goal of decarbonizing all Catalan public services by 2040.

To date, 108 installations have been completed, and 234 more are planned, bringing the total to 341. This will provide an installed capacity of 56 MW across the region. The project also serves to help schools manage high temperatures in classrooms.

The program utilizes a collective self-consumption model. Excess energy generated by the schools can be distributed to other public facilities, such as health centers, police stations, or judicial buildings, located within a five-kilometer radius. For example, the Institut Lluís de Peguera in Manresa recently installed 260 panels, capable of producing 187 megawatt-hours of electricity annually.
