Lenin General University Hospital in Holguín reports theft and poor conditions

A family attending to a patient at the Lenin General University Hospital in Holguín, Cuba, reported the theft of a purse containing personal documents, a cellphone, bank cards, a retirement checkbook, and essential medications. The theft occurred at night while the caregiver was attending to her father, who has been hospitalized for over a week.

The incident highlights severe systemic issues within the facility. Due to a lack of hospital supplies, the family had been forced to purchase their own medications and disposable diapers. Additionally, reports and video evidence have surfaced showing the hospital bed infested with bedbugs.

Further complications include a lack of functioning medical equipment and laboratory reagents. This has reportedly left medical staff unable to perform diagnostic tests, forcing them to rely on personal judgment to determine patient conditions. Similar complaints regarding infrastructure, such as lack of water and broken equipment, have been documented at the hospital.
