Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León appeals detention in fatal cell phone dispute

Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León has appealed the three-month preventive detention order imposed in September regarding the death of Emmanuel Contreras Medina. The incident occurred in the Los Praditos sector of the Distrito Nacional following a disputed Facebook Marketplace transaction.

According to the Public Ministry, the 23-year-old victim intended to purchase an iPhone 15 Pro Max. After transferring 15,000 pesos, a confrontation ensued at the La Javilla baseball stadium. Prosecutors allege that Núñez de León pursued Contreras Medina with a bat after a dispute over the payment. Contreras Medina later died from the injuries sustained during the assault.

The appeal hearing is scheduled for October 12 at 10:00 a.m. in the Third Chamber of the Criminal Court of the Distrito Nacional.
