Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León arrested in murder investigation
Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León was arrested at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) following his arrival from Miami. He is the primary suspect in the death of Enmanuel Contrera Medina, a case that has drawn significant public attention in the Dominican Republic.
The incident occurred on July 1 in the Los Praditos sector of the National District. According to the Public Ministry, Contrera Medina met Núñez de León to finalize the purchase of an iPhone 15 Pro Max advertised on Facebook Marketplace. After the victim transferred RD$15,000, Núñez de León allegedly accused him of theft and brutally attacked him with a baseball bat. Contrera Medina suffered severe head trauma and passed away in a hospital on September 8.
Prior to his arrest, Núñez de León released a video claiming he was returning to the country voluntarily to clarify the facts. He denied fleeing to evade justice, stating he was in the United States as an international student for over four years. He also rejected allegations regarding identity changes or criminal records. He has been transferred to the Ciudad Nueva Palace of Justice to face legal proceedings.
