Lenka Starková elected to lead Aerial Archaeology Research Group
Lenka Starková, an archaeologist from the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, has been elected to lead the Aerial Archaeology Research Group (AARG). She is the first Czech national to head the international organization, which focuses on researching archaeological landscapes using drones and other modern digital technologies.
Starková will serve a three-year term on the executive committee, overseeing the organization’s operations, professional direction, international cooperation, and annual conferences. Her work involves the use of satellite imagery and retrospective analysis to map the destruction and transformation of rural landscapes caused by 20th and 21st-century conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, including Iraq and Iraqi Kurdistan.
