Lennar Homes project conflicts with California High-Speed Rail route

A proposed residential development in Shafter, California, has created a conflict with the California High-Speed Rail project. Developer Lennar Homes has submitted plans for Gossamer Grove, a master-planned community consisting of approximately 1,200 single-family homes located near Highway 99.

The planned community features three- and four-bedroom homes priced in the high $300,000s, along with amenities such as playgrounds, picnic areas, and dog parks. However, the geographic alignment of the development overlaps with the designated corridor for the high-speed rail extension near Bakersfield.

This overlap has intensified debates regarding land use, transportation planning, and local economic interests. While the developer aims to create a sustainable community, critics and rail authorities note that the project could interfere with the planned rail path, potentially requiring modifications to the existing high-speed rail route.
