Lennestadt: Firefighters battle truck fire on B55 highway

On Monday, October 19, 2026, emergency services responded to a truck fire on the B55 highway between Bonzel and Bonzelerhammer in Lennestadt. Upon arrival, firefighters found the driver's cabin of a semi-trailer truck fully engulfed in flames.

The fire spread to the vehicle's cargo, which consisted of several tons of waste wood. Due to the high intensity of the fire and the large amount of flammable material, extensive water supplies were required, initially provided by two tank fire engines before transitioning to the local hydrant network.

The Technical Relief Agency (THW) assisted in the operation using a backhoe to move and loosen the waste wood. This allowed firefighters to expose hidden embers and hotspots within the densely packed load for targeted extinguishing. While the cargo was heavily affected, a complete unloading of the trailer was not necessary.
