Lens police grenade deployment ruled compliant by prosecutors
French prosecutors have stated that the use of a stun grenade by CRS officers in Lens was 'conformable to the operating mode' prescribed by regulations. The incident occurred during a mobilization at Auguste-Béhal high school, where police had intervened following reports of mortar fire and stone throwing.
A 15-year-old student suffered severe injuries in the explosion, resulting in the amputation of his left hand. While the prosecutor noted the officer acted under command and followed training documentation, most witnesses claim a protester picked up the grenade from the ground before it detonated.
The victim's mother has filed a formal complaint regarding the injuries. The Inspection générale de la police nationale (IGPN) is conducting an investigation into the event.
