Leo Carlsson explains signing Philadelphia Flyers offer sheet

Leo Carlsson, center for the Anaheim Ducks, has issued a letter to fans explaining his decision to sign a five-year offer sheet from the Philadelphia Flyers during the summer. The deal, valued at $18 million annually, briefly made the 21-year-old the highest-paid player in the NHL.

Carlsson clarified that while he intended to remain with the Ducks, the scale of the financial offer made it difficult to decline. “It’s just when that number pops up, it’s hard to say no in the situation I was in,” Carlsson stated, adding that Anaheim remains where he wants to be for the rest of his life.

The Anaheim Ducks ultimately matched the offer sheet, ensuring Carlsson stays in Anaheim. The player noted that his primary focus moving forward is team success and winning the Stanley Cup rather than individual pressure.
