Rudi Cerne discusses motivation for hosting Aktenzeichen XY

Rudi Cerne, who has hosted the crime program ‘Aktenzeichen XY … Ungelöst’ on ZDF since 2002, has revealed why he initially hesitated to accept the role. The former figure skater was skeptical when the network offered him the position to succeed the late Eduard Zimmermann.

Cerne decided to accept the job after being deeply affected by the disappearance of eight-year-old Julia Hose, a case that resonated with him personally as his own daughter was of a similar age at the time. He noted that seeing how the program helped investigators identify a murderer convinced him that the task was meaningful.

Additionally, Cerne sought advice from television legend Frank Elstner, who encouraged him to take the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
