Leokadia Justman exhibition concludes in Innsbruck with 9,500 visitors

The two-year special exhibition “Leokadia Justman. Brechen wir aus!” concluded at the Innsbruck Landhaus on the Austrian national holiday. The exhibition chronicled the life of Leokadia Justman, a Polish Jewish woman who survived the Holocaust by fleeing to Tyrol with the assistance of local residents.

According to the State of Tyrol, the exhibition drew 9,514 visitors and included approximately 20 official events, such as plays, readings, and the presentation of a new graphic novel. Educational outreach was a significant component, with 114 school tours reaching roughly 2,500 students and 200 teachers.

To ensure the story remains accessible, the exhibition will move to the Theological Faculty in Innsbruck, where it will be displayed until June 2027. Additionally, a digital educational offering including a 360-degree virtual tour and various learning materials will be available via the LEON educational portal starting November 9. The story of Justman is also slated to be translated into Polish and Spanish, with a theatrical production planned for the Tiroler Landestheater in 2027.
