Leon authorities investigate series of human remains found in bags

Authorities in Leon, Mexico, are investigating an atypical series of discoveries involving human remains. On October 19, 2026, the remains of two individuals were found in the 10 de Mayo and Industrial Santa Crocce neighborhoods. Shortly after, on October 21, the bodies of five people were discovered in plastic bags discarded in the Cañada Real, Balcones de la Joya, Brisas del Sol, and La Providencia neighborhoods.

State Attorney Vázquez Alatriste described the rapid succession of similar findings as a matter requiring criminal analysis. In addition to the discoveries in bags, investigations are ongoing regarding the homicide of a Celaya traffic police officer, María del Rosario Rodríguez Olvera, who was shot in public. The prosecutor has also called for better cooperation from Celaya municipal police and noted ongoing efforts to investigate the forced disappearance of young people, including a student from Salamanca.
