Leon Balogun signs with Hungarian champions ETO Gyor
Nigerian defender Leon Balogun has joined Hungarian league champions ETO Gyor on a one‑year contract that runs until the summer of 2027. The 38‑year‑old, a former Brighton, Mainz and Rangers player with 48 caps for the Super Eagles, said he is excited to help the club defend its domestic title and compete in the UEFA Conference League, adding that he will bring veteran experience on and off the pitch.
In a separate club match, fellow Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez featured for Scottish side Rangers in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League qualifier against Polish club Jagiellonia Białystok. Rangers fell 2‑1 after Fernandez inadvertently scored an own goal, contributing to Jagiellonia’s winning goal. The loss leaves Rangers needing to overturn the deficit in the second leg at Ibrox.
