Leon Baptiste missing in Morocco for nearly two months

British athletics coach Leon Baptiste has been missing for nearly two months after traveling to Morocco for a trip with friends. Baptiste, a former Commonwealth gold medalist and Loughborough-based consultant, has not responded to calls or messages from his athletes, colleagues, or UK Athletics.

The disappearance has caused significant concern within the British sporting community. One of his primary athletes, Olympic bronze medalist Charlie Dobson, recently alluded to a difficult period during the European Athletics Championships, describing the previous eight weeks as “an interesting eight weeks.”

UK Athletics has declined to provide specific details due to confidentiality but has deployed performance staff to support Baptiste’s training group. Former European 400m champion Martyn Rooney has been among those assisting Dobson and other athletes in the absence of their regular coach. The British Embassy in Rabat has reportedly been approached regarding the matter.
