Leon Goretzka remains without club after free transfer from Bayern Munich

German midfielder Leon Goretzka left Schalke 04 in 2018 to join Bayern Munich, signing a free‑transfer deal after his contract with Schalke expired. He spent eight seasons at Bayern, winning 15 titles, before his contract ran out on 30 June 2023.

Since leaving Bayern, Goretzka has not secured a new club. Reports link him with several European sides, including Barcelona, Arsenal, Juventus, AC Milan, Napoli and Atlético Madrid, but no agreement has been reached. His agents are said to demand a €7 million net annual salary plus a €10 million signing bonus, while Bayern paid him €13 million gross in his final season. The lack of interest follows a disappointing World Cup performance, where Goretzka made only three brief appearances.

The situation has left the 31‑year‑old midfielder without a team, despite earlier being described as a “privileged” free agent with multiple options.
