Leon named a top travel destination for 2027

The Spanish city of Leon has been named to Lonely Planet’s ‘Best in Travel’ list for 2027. Located in northern Spain, the city is recognized for its blend of medieval architecture, rich history, and vibrant atmosphere, serving as an alternative to major destinations like Madrid, Barcelona, and Ibiza.

A primary attraction is the 13th-century cathedral, known as ‘Pulchra Leonina’ or the ‘House of Light’ due to its 125 windows and over 1,800 square meters of stained glass. The city’s culinary scene is highlighted by the Barrio Humedo district, where a local tradition offers free tapas with the purchase of a drink, such as local wine or beer.

Other notable landmarks include the Basilica of San Isidoro, contributing to a landscape where historical heritage meets modern life.
