Leon Weintraub: 100-year-old Holocaust survivor featured in new documentary

Leon Weintraub, a 100-year-old Holocaust survivor, is featured in the new documentary ‘L'dor Vador - Von Generation zu Generation’. The film chronicles his experiences during one of the darkest periods of German history.

Weintraub recounts being forced into a ghetto in Lodz, Poland, before being transported to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. He describes the harrowing silence during the transport in train wagons and the loss of his mother, who was murdered in the gas chambers.

He explains that he narrowly escaped death by joining a group of men receiving prisoner tattoos and clothing. Weintraub, who later studied medicine in Göttingen, remains one of the few remaining witnesses capable of sharing these firsthand accounts of Nazi atrocities.
