Leonard Doe receives suspended sentence for roofing fraud
Leonard Doe, the 44-year-old director of LD and Sons Roofing Ltd, has received a suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to defrauding customers through aggressive and misleading commercial practices.
Operating out of Richmond Upon Thames, Doe targeted homeowners in Okehampton, Tiverton, and Plymouth. After collecting deposits, he would remove roof slates and then claim the job required a full roof replacement at a significantly higher price. Victims reported that work was performed to a very poor standard, and those who refused the increased quotes were charged extra to restore their roofs. In total, three victims paid £20,105 for incomplete or substandard work.
Exeter Crown Court heard that Doe was ordered to pay £9,000 in compensation and complete 150 hours of unpaid work. He received a 21-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. Additionally, a four-year Criminal Behaviour Order has been imposed, banning him from acting as a company director or engaging in cold calling.
