São Paulo authorities arrest deputy candidate and charge PRTB leader
Authorities in São Paulo have launched major operations targeting political figures suspected of ties to organized crime and electoral fraud.
Emerson Dias Rocha, a state deputy candidate for Podemos, was arrested during 'Operação Cátaros' on suspicion of involvement in a money laundering scheme linked to the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC). The investigation also revealed that a Civil Police investigator allegedly helped Rocha conceal evidence related to a 1998 homicide. Additionally, search warrants were executed at the Cotia Municipal Chamber, targeting the offices of three sitting councilors.
Separately, Leonardo Avalanche, president of the PRTB and vice-presidential candidate on Pablo Marçal’s ticket, has become a defendant in a São Paulo court. He faces charges of criminal association, gender-based political violence, and fraud. Prosecutors allege Avalanche orchestrated a scheme to seize control of the PRTB by using falsified documents and recruiting individuals to pose as party founders during internal elections. The case involves allegations of death threats and coercion against former party leadership.
