Leonardo Fabbri reaches world number one ranking in shot put

Italian shot putter Leonardo Fabbri has reached the top of the World Athletics rankings for the first time in his career. The 29-year-old secured the position following a season characterized by consistent performances above the 22-meter mark, including a victory in Eugene and a Diamond League title.

Fabbri, who recently secured his second consecutive outdoor European title in Birmingham, narrowly missed the 23-meter milestone with a personal best of 22.98 meters. He leads the rankings by a three-point margin over his competitors.

Looking ahead, Fabbri is focusing on the upcoming indoor European Championships in Valencia in March, followed by the World Athletics Championships in Beijing in September. He expressed confidence in his ability to eventually surpass the 23-meter barrier as he continues to compete against top-tier international athletes.
