Leonardo manages global supply chain risks through supplier diversification

Marco Buratti of Leonardo has outlined the company's strategy to manage global supply chain risks and ensure security within the defense and space sectors. Leonardo maintains a vast network of over 12,000 suppliers worldwide, including 4,000 in Italy, where approximately 85% are small and medium-sized enterprises.

To mitigate bottlenecks in raw materials and global supply tensions, the company utilizes its industrial presence in roughly 50 countries. Leonardo operates primarily in Italy, the United States, Great Britain, and Poland. Rather than purchasing critical raw materials directly, the company focuses on acquiring semiconductors and semi-finished goods through a relationship of mutual interdependence with its suppliers.

Buratti noted that the company encourages suppliers to invest in updated technologies and processes. Additionally, Leonardo seeks to establish agreements with countries that provide critical raw materials, citing Canada as a potential partner in this regard.
