Leonardo Marcos denies pressuring Guardia Civil in Leire Díez case

Leonardo Marcos, the former director of the Guardia Civil, testified before National Court judge Santiago Pedraz regarding the Leire Díez case. The investigation focuses on alleged maneuvers by former socialist activist Leire Díez to destabilize judicial proceedings affecting the PSOE and the Spanish government.

Marcos denied allegations that he pressured officials to ensure a report concerning David Sánchez, the brother of Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, remained ‘clean’. He refuted claims made by former UCO chief Rafael Yuste that he ordered subordinates to keep a low profile during the investigation.

Marcos admitted to meeting with subordinates to investigate potential leaks after a UCO report appeared in the media. He also confirmed he instructed investigators to accelerate their work, including during the month of August, to process thousands of pending emails. The Popular Party, acting as the unified popular prosecution, argues that the investigated actions represent a ‘coordinated effort by the leadership of the Guardia Civil’.
