Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio under investigation for child abduction as he secures €1bn loan

Italian entrepreneur Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, the son of EssilorLuxottica founder Leonardo Del Vecchio, is the subject of a criminal investigation in Milan. His former partner Sara Soldati accused him of private violence and of taking their one‑year‑old daughter aboard his yacht for about two weeks without agreed contact, prompting the prosecutor to open a probe into alleged child abduction.

At the same time, Del Vecchio has arranged a financing package with U.S. private‑equity firm Apollo Global Management. The deal provides an initial €1.1 billion loan at an 8 % interest rate, with the possibility of extending the credit line by up to €10 billion. The funds are intended to refinance personal exposures and to help resolve disputes among the eight Del Vecchio heirs over family holdings.
