Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio's Delfin Holding Dispute Over Share Transfer

Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, heir to the Italian eyewear empire, holds a 12.5% stake in the Luxembourg holding company Delfin, which gives him indirect holdings of roughly 32.4% of EssilorLuxottica, 17.5% of MPS, 10.1% of Generali and just under 3% of UniCredit. His participation is valued between €5 billion and €7 billion.

He is trying to raise his ownership to about 37.5% by buying a combined 25% stake from his siblings Luca and Paola Del Vecchio. Although the siblings agreed to sell, the Delfin shareholders’ meeting in June failed to approve the transfer, leaving his veto power intact.

At the same time, Del Vecchio contested a transfer of rights that his mother Nicoletta Zampillo made to Rocco Basilico shortly after the founder’s death. Basilico has also challenged assembly decisions that would have moved Luca and Paola’s shares. A tentative June agreement to withdraw legal actions collapsed, and a disputed 0.4% stake attributed to Basilico remains unresolved.
