Leonardo Martín N detained in Poza Rica for homicide tied to Fortín bar fight

Police in the Mexican state of Veracruz arrested Leonardo Martín “N”, identified as a suspect in the May 10 killing of Hiram Álvarez (known as “El Barbas”) after a brawl at the Peter’s bar in the Fortín La Nigua community. Martín, a mechanic from the Los Filtros neighborhood, was captured in Poza Rica and presented before a judge at the oral trial court in La Toma, Amatlán de los Reyes. The victim died at the scene after being struck by a white double‑cab pickup and a compact car that fled the scene. Authorities have temporarily closed the bar and will decide during a future hearing whether the case proceeds to trial.

The arrest follows an investigation that linked Martín to the incident, which began inside the bar and moved onto public streets. The judicial process is pending, with the judge set to determine if sufficient evidence exists to continue the criminal proceeding.
