Leonardo reaches record 60.4 billion euro order backlog

Italian aerospace and defense group Leonardo has reported record financial results for the first nine months of 2026. The company’s total order backlog has surpassed 60 billion euros for the first time, reaching 60.4 billion euros. This represents a significant increase driven by 23.3 billion euros in new orders received between January and September, a 28 percent rise compared to the same period in the previous year.

Revenue for the period reached 15.3 billion euros, marking a 14 percent increase over 2025. CEO Lorenzo Mariani noted that the company is now prioritizing operational improvements to transform this massive backlog into efficient production and timely deliveries. The growth was partially supported by the March acquisition of Iveco’s defense division, which contributed approximately 6 billion euros to the total.

Strategic initiatives driving the company’s long-term vision include the GCAP fighter jet project, partnerships with Baykar and Rheinmetall, and an alliance with Airbus and Thales to create a European space operator. Leonardo is also focusing on digitalization, aerospace, and drone technology to strengthen its global position in the aerospace, defense, and security sectors.
