Leonardo Pavoletti announces retirement from professional football

Italian footballer Leonardo Pavoletti has announced his retirement from professional football. In a lengthy letter published via journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the striker expressed serenity regarding his decision, stating, “I have decided to say goodbye to football. Although I still leave a small door open.”

Pavoletti, who played for clubs including Cagliari, Napoli, Sassuolo, and Genoa, cited a knee injury as a factor in his decision to step away from the pitch. He reflected on his career, from his early days in Serie D to his significant contributions in Serie A and his emotional role in helping Cagliari achieve promotion.

Looking toward the future, Pavoletti is transitioning into a management role. He has recently been admitted to a FIGC course to become a sporting director, marking the start of a new professional chapter behind the scenes.
