Leonardo, Poste Italiane to gain control of Italy's national cloud hub

Italian defence group Leonardo plans to increase its holding in the National Strategic Hub (PSN), the company that runs cloud services for Italy’s public administration, from 25% to 35% by buying a further 10% from state‑owned IT firm Sogei. The move is part of a broader reshuffle that also sees state‑backed Poste Italiane acquire a 20% stake from the state lender CDP, with the long‑term goal of reaching a 65% joint control of the cloud platform.

PSN is central to Italy’s cloud‑migration programme, which is supported by roughly €2 billion from the EU’s post‑pandemic Recovery Fund. TIM currently holds the largest share at 45%. The proposed governance arrangement would give Poste the chief‑executive role while Leonardo would nominate the chairperson. The transaction is relatively small – Sogei’s stake is recorded at €7 million on its balance sheet – and could be announced by the end of the month.
