Leonardo presents tank options to Italy and secures Brazil contract

Leonardo and Rheinmetall Military Vehicles have presented several tank options to the Italian Army as part of ongoing European procurement and modernization efforts. The presentation focuses on how these systems can integrate into existing military structures, including training, spare parts supply, and interoperability with current command architectures.

Separately, Leonardo’s Italian consortium (CIO) has secured a contract to deliver Centauro II 8x8 wheeled tank destroyers to Brazil. This initial batch includes seven vehicles as part of a larger modernization program that aims to procure a total of 98 Centauro IIs over approximately 15 years.

The Brazilian contract, valued at R$420 million, requires the delivery of the first vehicles by early 2028. The program includes tooling, spare parts, and crew training, with a long-term goal of achieving 70% local assembly at the IDV plant in Sete Lagoas starting from the fifth batch.
