Leonel Cota Montaño leaves SADER for Morena political roles

Leonel Cota Montaño, the former governor of Baja California Sur, has confirmed his departure from the Subsecretaría de Agricultura y Desarrollo Rural (SADER). He will transition to political organization roles for the Morena party in Chihuahua, focusing on preparations for the 2027 elections.

While Cota Montaño did not publicly state his reasons for leaving the federal administration, his departure follows reports suggesting a potential loss of confidence from President Claudia Sheinbaum’s administration. In Chihuahua, he is expected to collaborate with state party coordination efforts currently led by Cruz Pérez Cuéllar.
