Leonel Fernández states Fuerza del Pueblo has no 2028 candidate

Leonel Fernández, president of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party, has stated that the organization has not yet defined its presidential candidate for the 2028 elections. Fernández emphasized that current legal frameworks, including the Laws of Political Parties and the Electoral Regime, dictate specific timelines for such decisions. He noted that it is premature to discuss candidacies, clarifying that neither he nor his son, Senator Omar Fernández, can be formally proclaimed at this stage due to legal restrictions.

Fernández also addressed rumors regarding a potential electoral ticket involving Omar Fernández and communicator Santiago Matías, maintaining that the formal electoral process has not yet begun. He projected that the official pre-campaign would start in 2027, with the general campaign following in October of that year.

In addition to these political clarifications, Fernández is conducting a tour of the southern region of the Dominican Republic. His agenda includes visits to the provinces of Azua, San Juan, and Elías Piña, where he will meet with productive, economic, and social sectors. The tour also features several ceremonies to swear in new members of the Fuerza del Pueblo to strengthen the party's organizational structure.
