Leonel Fernández expands Fuerza del Pueblo base in Dominican northwest ahead of 2028 election
President of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), Leonel Fernández, spent the weekend of 1 August 2026 touring the north‑west provinces of Montecristi, Dajabón and Santiago Rodríguez. He held consultations with producers, merchants and entrepreneurs to gather proposals for public policy and economic development. At the same time, the party juramented dozens of former local officials, including ex‑PRM leader Viade Escarfuller, former mayors Mártir Antonio Cabrera and José María Cabrera, and ex‑governor Andrés Ludo Génere, bolstering its structure for the 2028 presidential race.
Fernández also met with local business owners such as Junior Fondeur of Moto Plaza and Edward Hernández of Auto Repuestos EHP, and addressed a crowd of community leaders, emphasizing that the consultations aim to “build public policies listening directly to those who generate wealth in each community.”
Separately, the party received a diagnostic report on its European diaspora organization from vice‑president Luz Altagracia Martínez, highlighting strategies to increase participation of Dominicans abroad in the upcoming election. Party officials, including Luis Hernández, claimed that recent polls show strong popular backing for Fernández’s return to the presidency.
