Leonel Fernández criticizes government response to electricity crisis

Leonel Fernández, president of the Fuerza del Pueblo party, has called on government officials to take responsibility for the ongoing electricity crisis in the Dominican Republic. Speaking in San Juan de la Maguana, Fernández criticized administration members for publicly complaining about rising electricity bills while failing to address the systemic issues causing frequent blackouts and social protests.

Fernández accused the ruling party of attempting to act as both “government and opposition at the same time” to evade accountability. He characterized the current state of the electrical system as a “total regression,” highlighting a massive debt to power generators that has reached nearly $2 billion USD.
