Leonel Jaime breaks in tears after fair play gesture in Uruguay

During a Uruguayan Clausura tournament match between Peñarol and Juventud de Las Piedras at the Estadio Centenario, 20-year-old Argentine winger Leonel Jaime became the center of controversy following a gesture of sportsmanship.

After a collision between Peñarol’s Ignacio Alegre and Juventud’s Kevin Rolón left the latter injured on the pitch, the referee allowed play to continue. Jaime, who had possession and a clear opportunity to advance an attack, chose to kick the ball out of bounds to allow medical staff to attend to the fallen opponent.

Instead of praise, Jaime faced intense criticism. Peñarol supporters booed the decision from the stands, and several of his own teammates confronted him on the field for halting a promising offensive play. The emotional weight of the backlash caused Jaime to break down in tears during the match. The game ultimately ended in a 0-0 draw, leaving Peñarol in a difficult position in the standings.
