LVBP announces 2026-2027 season with new technology and rules
The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) has officially presented its 2026-2027 season, introducing several structural and technological changes. Key innovations include the implementation of the Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS) using radar technology, to be tested during the second half of the season. Additionally, the league has increased the quota for foreign players, allowing each team to roster up to eight imports.
The upcoming season will serve as a tribute to the 2026 World Baseball Classic champions and the victims of the June 24 earthquakes. To expand the league's international reach, the LVBP confirmed a ‘Clash of Giants’ exhibition game between Navegantes del Magallanes and Tiburones de La Guaira, scheduled to take place at loanDepot Park in Miami.
Regarding the postseason, the league announced a new Round Robin format where the top four teams qualify directly, while the fifth spot will be determined through a series between the fifth and sixth-placed teams. The postseason is scheduled to begin on January 2, 2027.
