Leones del Escogido releases Wander Franco and three players
The Leones del Escogido baseball team has released Wander Franco and three other players as part of a regulatory reserve reduction process ahead of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) draft.
General Manager Carlos Peña stated that the decision to release Franco, William Lugo, Gerlin Rosario, and Bryan González was an operational move intended to meet the team’s sports planning needs for the upcoming season. By releasing Franco, the organization avoids the immediate decision of whether to allow him to play while his legal situation remains unresolved.
Franco is currently involved in a judicial process regarding allegations of sexual and psychological abuse of a minor. While a court previously granted him a judicial pardon following a finding of responsibility, the Public Ministry has appealed the decision, and the legal proceedings continue.
