Leones Negros protest against lack of football promotion in Mexico

Leones Negros players from the Universidad de Guadalajara staged a protest at Estadio Jalisco during their Liga de Expansión MX match against Piratas de Veracruz to demand the return of sporting promotion in Mexican football.

During the official team photo, players covered their mouths with their hands. Following the initial kickoff by the opposing team, the Leones Negros players knelt on the pitch and remained immobile for a period. The protest is directed at the Liga MX decision to eliminate the promotion and relegation system between the top flight and the expansion league.

Fans in the stands supported the demonstration by chanting “queremos ascenso” (we want promotion). The club stated via social media that they are fighting for the dream of those currently playing and future generations, asserting that “EL FUTBOL ES DE TODOS” (football belongs to everyone).
