LEONHARD KURZ and Maurer Kunststofftechnik present plastic manufacturing innovations
At the Fakuma 2026 trade fair, LEONHARD KURZ and Maurer Kunststofftechnik GmbH presented new advancements in plastic surface finishing and material recycling.
LEONHARD KURZ introduced processes designed to bring decorative and functional plastic surface finishing into mass production more efficiently. Their 3K-IMD process demonstrator integrates surface decoration, functional elements, and surface protection into a single manufacturing step. This method uses the IMD VARIOFORM Sheet-to-Sheet technique, which can process three different plastics into components with both opaque and transparent areas. The process aims to reduce production costs, increase process reliability, and lower CO2 emissions by eliminating separate steps.
Maurer Kunststofftechnik GmbH showcased a PEEK recyclate program and a concept for the customized reprocessing of production residues. Their offerings include unreinforced, glass-fiber-reinforced, carbon-fiber-reinforced, and slide-modified PEEK qualities. The company focuses on creating customer-specific material cycles by collecting and reprocessing production scraps, such as pure-grade startup parts and runners, to create high-quality recycled materials that closely match the properties of virgin plastics.
