Leopard sightings in Karnataka village trigger resident panic

A leopard sighting in Huligere village, located in the Kadur taluk of Chikkamagaluru district, Karnataka, has caused significant alarm among local residents. Mobile phone footage captured the animal moving through the village, including instances of it passing close to an elderly woman in her courtyard and resting on a house's compound wall.

The presence of the predator has raised safety concerns for daily-wage workers, schoolchildren, and commuters. While the Forest Department arrived to attempt a capture, the operation resulted in a confrontation with villagers. Residents alleged that some personnel arrived under the influence of alcohol and demanded that trained professionals be deployed to manage the situation safely.

Authorities have advised villagers to limit unnecessary movement in the area and remain cautious until the animal is successfully traced and relocated.
