Leopardi works featured at Italian Cultural Institute in Athens

The Italian Cultural Institute in Athens recently hosted an event titled ‘Lo Zibaldone e le Operette morali in una nuova luce’, focusing on two significant new publications regarding the works of Giacomo Leopardi.

The first is a new edition of ‘Zibaldone’, edited by Franco D’Intino and Luca Maccioni for Quodlibet. This edition features graphic conventions to distinguish various authors cited by Leopardi, marginal translations for foreign language passages, and an extensive commentary apparatus. Scholars noted the work’s deep roots in ancient Greek culture and its influence on later intellectual figures.

The second publication is the first complete translation of ‘Operette morali’ into modern Greek, translated by Panaiotis Tsiamouras for Edizioni Eurasia. This translation aims to make this pillar of Italian literary and philosophical tradition fully accessible to the Greek public for the first time.
