Lerdo evaluates new landfill construction following fires
The Lerdo City Council is evaluating the construction of a new sanitary landfill to improve solid waste management. Mayor Susy Carolina Torrecillas Salazar stated that the initiative follows recent fires at the current landfill and ongoing issues with illegal dumping sites.
The project will begin with a technical study to determine viability and necessary technological requirements for a safer facility. Officials noted that the current site lacks perimeter walls, increasing the risk of fires caused by unauthorized access or negligence. Additionally, authorities are reviewing clandestine dumping sites and have recently closed an unlicensed property on the Libramiento Periférico to protect the environment and urban safety.
