Lere Olayinka calls for TikTok ban in Nigeria

Lere Olayinka, spokesperson for Nigeria's Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, has called for a review or a total ban of the social media platform TikTok in Nigeria.

The proposal follows the arrest of a 36-year-old woman accused of using her seven-year-old daughter to create and publish adult content on the platform. During investigations, the suspect reportedly disclosed that she had earned approximately $300 from the illicit content.

The incident has sparked national debate regarding child safety and the need for stricter regulation of social media platforms to prevent the exploitation of minors for financial gain. As of the latest reports, TikTok has not responded to the controversy, and the Nigerian government has not announced an official policy regarding a potential ban.
