Leroy Doorson proposes development plan for Coronie

Leroy Doorson, a member of Suriname’s National Assembly, is advocating for a comprehensive development plan for the Coronie district. Following recent visits to the Netherlands and Belgium, Doorson has established connections with the Surinamese diaspora to leverage their expertise and networks for regional advancement, emphasizing vision and knowledge transfer over mere financial aid.

A primary focus of the proposal is improving the district's education system, which currently faces a low pass rate of 31.8 percent. Doorson intends to collaborate with the Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture to address this issue. Additionally, he is calling for improved healthcare infrastructure, specifically the establishment of a first-aid post to reduce the distances residents must travel for medical assistance.

In the agricultural sector, Doorson highlights the necessity of repairing the water-retaining dam to support local farming and livestock. He aims to strengthen Coronie’s identity as a significant coconut-producing region through cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Fisheries, promoting sustainable and innovative agricultural practices.
