Les Écologistes to vote on 2027 presidential strategy

The French Green party, Les Écologistes, is considering a strategic referendum to determine its approach for the 2027 presidential election. A motion to be discussed during an extraordinary federal council meeting proposes that members vote between running an independent candidacy or withdrawing to support another candidate.

If the motion is adopted, a referendum will be held for party members from December 10 to December 13. Under the current proposal, Marine Tondelier would continue to represent the party's priorities and project until the vote is finalized.

The plan has faced criticism from internal opponents who argue the timeline is rushed and that holding the meeting via videoconference limits meaningful debate. Some critics also contest Tondelier's status as the party's presidential candidate, noting her previous designation was for a joint left-wing primary that failed to materialize after the Socialist Party opted for a different political process.
