Ceuta receives honors from Valencia amid border crisis

The city of Ceuta is receiving high-level honors from Valencia as a gesture of solidarity following a severe border crisis. Juan Jesús Vivas, President of Ceuta, traveled to Valencia to accept the Medalla de Honor from the City Council, an award intended to show support for the Ceutí people after a mass migration event in late July.

Vivas described the current state of Ceuta as an unsustainable “pressure cooker” that could explode at any moment. He reported that approximately 100,000 people were used to violate the city's territorial integrity during the recent crisis, leaving an estimated 15,000 people in the city illegally as of late July. He emphasized that defending Ceuta is synonymous with defending Spanish sovereignty.

In addition to the municipal honor, the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, announced that the region will grant the Alta Distinción to Ceuta. This recognition aims to honor the resilience of the Ceutí population and reinforce the bonds between the two territories during a period of significant instability.
