Les Républicains website targeted by cyberattack

The French political party Les Républicains (LR) fell victim to a cyberattack on Friday, October 16, 2026. Hackers hijacked the official website, replacing its content with messages calling for citizens to join national protests scheduled for Saturday, October 17.

The attackers claimed to have stolen member data, internal communications, and private messages, threatening to leak this information to investigative journalists if their demands regarding the street mobilizations are not met by next Tuesday. However, the party leadership, led by Bruno Retailleau, has contested these claims, stating that no sensitive information or data leaks have been detected and that only the website was affected.

Bruno Retailleau’s team announced plans to file a formal complaint. The incident occurred amid a tense political climate, with the October 17 mobilization expected to include various unions and movements, including a resurgence of the ‘Gilets jaunes’ protests.
