Leshun Institute receives medical assessment equipment for residents

The Yunlin Charity Foundation has donated visual assessment tools and hand grip equipment to the Leshun Institute in New Taipei City. The donation, valued at 68,000 TWD, was facilitated by the New Taipei City Social Affairs Bureau.

The equipment is intended to help residents with high support needs—many of whom suffer from severe mental or multiple disabilities—monitor age-related physical decline. Because many residents have limited cognitive or verbal abilities, they often cannot communicate symptoms like vision loss or reduced hand strength. The tools include distance, near-distance, contrast sensitivity, and low-contrast face recognition assessments, as well as a hand grip rhythm machine to maintain motor functions.

Leshun Institute Director Wu Shu-hui noted that approximately 70 of the facility's 118 residents require aging assessments annually. The donation aims to allow caregivers to detect physical changes through objective tools rather than relying solely on observing behavioral shifts, such as hesitation in walking or difficulty holding objects.
