Lesley-Anne Down discusses portraying Margaret Thatcher in ‘Reagan’

Actress Lesley-Anne Down has described the intense physical and emotional toll of portraying Margaret Thatcher in the film ‘Reagan’. The movie has recently been re-released in American theaters as an expanded ‘Director’s Cut’ containing 10 minutes of additional footage.

Down stated that the process of capturing the former British Prime Minister’s essence was exhausting, noting that she felt humbled by the discipline required to portray such a significant historical figure. To prepare for the role, Down avoided studying previous portrayals, such as Meryl Streep’s performance in ‘The Iron Lady’, opting instead to study archival footage to master Thatcher’s specific vocal rhythms, posture, and expressions.
