Lesotho hosts Africa SOE Corporate Governance Summit

Lesotho is hosting the Africa State-Owned Enterprises (SOE) Corporate Governance Summit in Maseru from August 24 to 26, 2026. Under the theme, “Corporate Governance as a Tool for Transforming African SOEs into Global Competitors,” the event aims to enhance accountability, efficiency, and institutional performance within public enterprises.

Deputy Prime Minister Justice Nthomeng Majara officially opened the summit, outlining a transformation agenda built on four key pillars. These include improving corporate governance regimes, professionalizing the state’s role as a shareholder, and depoliticizing SOE boards to prioritize competence and operational excellence.

The summit has drawn participation from leaders and experts across several African nations, including Zambia, Zimbabwe, Seychelles, Mauritius, Tanzania, Malawi, Eswatini, Namibia, and Kenya. The gathering serves as a platform to share best practices and identify reforms to help SOEs manage strategic assets and support national development more sustainably.
