Lesotho officials conduct benchmarking visits to The Gambia and Botswana
A high-level delegation from the Kingdom of Lesotho has undertaken several strategic benchmarking visits to neighboring nations to enhance domestic governance and regulatory frameworks.
In The Gambia, a parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Tlohang Sekhamane met with the National Assembly to study Government Development Financing. The visit focused on the Programme for Accelerated Community Development (PACD) and the role of the Finance and Public Accounts Committee in ensuring transparency, budget scrutiny, and oversight of public expenditure. The session also included discussions on monitoring the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Simultaneously, Lesotho’s Minister of Health, Mamokete Ntšekhe, led a delegation to the Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA). This visit aims to inform the establishment and operationalization of the Lesotho Medicines Regulatory Authority (LeMeRA) following the enactment of the Lesotho Medicines and Medical Devices Control Authority Act, 2023. The delegation conducted site visits, including the BoMRA laboratory, to study regulatory models for medical product safety and quality standards.
